Mid-Winter Holler Information Guide
Hi y’all and welcome to the Mid-Winter Holler. This guide will tell you everything well almost that you need to know about the Holler
This year the date for the Holler does not quite fall in the middle of winter but still chilly enough to holler out to all those interested in gathering of the Mid Winter Holler. Last year was a fun time had by all so why not repeat it.
Between the Mid Winter Feast, Invitation Concert, workshops and blackboard concerts there is plenty of time and heaps of hideaway spots for jamming, jamming, jamming. After all, there is no better way to hone those skills than to pick a plenty and holler out loud.
Location – Tatum Park 822-850 State Highway 1, Horowhenua
With a main hollerin room , plenty of comfy break out areas for socialising and jamming, a restaurant/bar and multiple accommodation options to suite your budget, Tatum Park is a perfect location for this mid-winter gathering.
Mid-Winter Feast and Invitation Concert
The main event on Saturday night is the Mid-Winter Feast and Invitation Concert. What better way to celebrate a mid-winter solstice weekend that to share a hot buffet feast with friends. It is a sumptuous feast – (the menu was selected on an empty tum) and vegetarian options are available if indicated. The Dinner will be followed by the invitation concert in the Cobham Holler Hall. The concert line up will be selected by the event organisers and feature artists who are in attendance over the weekend. Last year collaboration was the message and the final performances worked a treat. This year will be the same – so be prepared.
Several blackboard concerts are planned over the weekend, Friday evening and Saturday. Plenty of opportunity for attendees to perform and collaborate.
We will look to structure the blackboard concerts around genres – more details at the event
In preparation please think about your tunes , the origin , old time , Americana etc and a bit on the background that you can share with everyone
There are 3 or 4 fantastic workshops planned for the weekend and the details will be announced closer to the time .
The Cobham Hall
This is the main area that we will use for the blackboard concerts, workshops and Saturday nights invitation concert. This will also be the general gathering areas for pickin and hollerin
The esteemed holler master, Peter Dyer will be on hand to teach us all the vocal artofhollering. Weexpectthataspecialhollerguidewillbedevelopedthatwith some training, we can communicate across the 22 acres such messages as , “the concert is starting” , “tucker time” “wanna pick some” and “bring some more whiskey down to the bonfire as I am parched”.
Jammin Jammin Jammin
We have looked to keep the weekend as jam friendly as possible so interspersed between the scheduled events, the expectation is to jam, pick, holler, collaborate, socialise, innovate and share as much music as everyone feels the need. There are comfy break out areas, an old spooky hollow, the restaurant and bar area and other random places for whatever jam may take your fancy.
Recording the Weekend
We will once again record and film the backboard and invitation concerts over the weekend. This is to not only capture a high quality record of the event but also as a means to promote the skill, talent, innovation of the music genres beyond the festival weekend
Restaurant and Bar
The restaurant and bar area is the main location for the food and festivities. Tatum Park provides very reasonably priced breakfast and lunch menu options. This is also a perfect place for jammin any time of the day up to late evening
There are a number of accommodation options that Tatum Park offers. This ranges from double rooms , single room to bunk accommodation and camping spots for the hardy souls or those with self contained mobile beds on wheels. The
Accommodation costs are separate from the Holler registration at a range of options and prices to suite your budget.

The Restaurant serves up a fine selection from the al a carte menu and was very popular last year. For those arriving on the Friday evening there will be a buffet dinner. Last year this was very popular.
Please , it helps the Tatum staff if we have a reasonably accurate account of the numbers so please indicate this when you make your booking if you want to book for Friday Buffet. ( Or closer to the time if you are unsure). Don’t want to disappoint anyone if there is not yummy Lasagne.
We have looked to keep the prices to be as reasonable as possible to cover the costs of the venue hire and the hire of PA etc, “But that’s not all” the cost for the weekend also includes a slap up Mid-Winter Feast Buffet Dinner on the Saturday night right before the Invitation Concert .
Note: Dependant on the number of bookings we may have spots open for Saturday Day bookings and the Scoff n Holler pack which is the Mid Winter Diner and Concert
