Ponder started as a test video when I was trying out the Canon XF300 HD camera and at the same time working on the new composition for resonator and guitar.
The two merged in the editing suite and Ponder was created. This footage was shot at several North Island locations here in New Zealand.
When the biggest snowstorm in living memory turned up on my deck it was a once in a life time opportunity to make a music video.
There was always the element of luck as I filmed and played on the first day, recorded a clean take of the music at night and put together a rough edit.
The next day as I looked at "myeh ok" results outside it started to snwo again,, teriffic cascading glorious snow. Action day 2 with camera, backing track and thermals.
A great way to celebrate nature, capture the mood and create music in the surrounding elements.
note: no dobro's were harmed in the making of this film.
Rest Kathleen was one of the first original compositions I wrote when I first picked up a dobro. The sound was a comforting friend and the discovery of the instrument went hand in hand with writing expressive music.
This video was filmed and edited by good friend, talented photographer and media artist Gavin Jaymes.
Dedicated to Kathleen Hilda Burt (nee Obrien)
